Equine and Horse Training Program

GENERAL INFORMATION

Mennan Pasinli Vocational High School has been founded in 1999. Equine and Horse Training Program, Mennan Pasinli  Vocational School, was opened in 2013 -2014 under the Department of Crop and Animal Production.. This department is subject to 120 ECTS credits short cycle (first base) gradation system in Equine and Horse Training Program field in higher education. Equine and Horse Training program belongs to the field of animal and plant production and consists of two years of pre-Bsc with 120 hours of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). When the program is successfully completed and the program requirements are met, students can obtain a pre-Bsc degree. In order to get pre-Bsc degree from the Equitation and Horse Training Program, all compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to 120 ECTS) must be successfully passed. The cumulative grade point average must be at least 2.0 out of 4.00.)

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Be able to interpret current issues related to horses in our society and in the world and to make efforts to promote and develop horsemanship in Turkey. 2. Acquire general knowledge and skills about horses and equitation and be able to apply these while performing the profession. 3. Obtain knowledge about equestrian sports and traditional Turkish horsemanship. 4. Determine and apply appropriate training techniques for sport horses. 5. Be aware of reproduction, health care and feeding techniques and applications in horse breeding. 6. Acquire general knowledge and skills about riding and training techniques of horse riders. 7. Be aware of management and organization in equestrian establishments. 8. Obtain knowledge and skills about hoof and foot disorders as well as shoeing techniques. 9. Be able to apply hygiene, health care, treatment and health services ordered by veterinarians at animal hospitals, private clinics, stud farms and breeding stations and apply precautions against contagious, epidemic and zoonotic diseases under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon. 10. Be able to work as a team member having necessary scientific formation and obeying professional and ethical rules, be ready to accept individual responsibility and be an example for the community with attitude and behavior. 11. Contribute to a more productive and efficient management of equine establishments. 12. Be able to prepare horses and riders to races / competitions appropriately, be aware of related procedures and understand and apply equestrian regulations, competition and racing rules.
